06 Aug Life-Changing Weeks in Haiti
Written by Jennifer Roth
With over one thousand photos that tell the visual story, I am adding some words to provide a
bit more information about my trip. I spent three incredible, sweaty, hard-working, life-changing weeks in Cap Haïtien and Saint-Louis du Nord in northwest Haiti. In partnership with Teachers2Teachers– International, I focused on community outreach and education.
My dedicated team of fellow educators and I hosted a summer camp at Ecole Baudin Méthodiste for over 120 children. We also provided staff development for its teachers.

Community outreach was also part of the experience. We visited Papillon Orphanage, StreetHearts, a
school for street children, a home of a local resident, and the New American Institute for English. We also met with boys who were in the process of aging out of their orphanage, having to face a transition into the “real world” with very little support or preparation.
I believe a picture is worth a thousand words, so I invite you to take a look at these exceptional experiences:
Second graders in action at camp
Sharing teaching techniques with teachers from Pister School
Camp volunteers from Streethearts
Providing English practice for the students at the New American Institute
French lessons, outdoor games, and movie night for the Streethearts boys
Craft project for kids at the Papillon Orphanage
Marckendy (our local translator) and his niece sharing her family portrait on our visit to his house
Bracelet-making with Marckendy’s nieces and neighbors
Farewell field trip for the boys leaving the orphanage
